The explanation is simple.
The financial means of the parents has encouraged more
and more children to continue on to further education or
university. Naturally, after completing their studies,
the young look for employment or want to develop careers
in London, Norwich or further a field; far from their
parent's restaurant kitchens in Great Yarmouth.
At present however, the presence of Eptakomites and the
Greek presence in Great Yarmouth is such that the Greeks
of Great Yarmouth jokingly replace the word 'Great' with
the word 'Greek' and speak not of Great Yarmouth but
'Greek Yarmouth'.
Of course, the important question now to be asked, is
how with the passing of time, can the 'other Eptakomi'
manage to survive, which for half a century has offered
Cypriot hospitality and a Greek character to this corner
of England called Great Yarmouth.
