Vasilis Yiannaka

R.N. 1409 | I.D. 412921

Vasilis was born on 16/12/1947 and studied at the seminary and was ordained a deacon. In 1970 he married Angeliki Ioannou Genari.
After the second wave of the invasion he was enclaved along with other fellow villagers. Turks from both Eptakomi and Galateia came to ask them to surrender. A number of Greeks from Eptakomi hid in the fields. Vasilis family went to the region named Zavi around lunchtime. Antonis Konis went with his Land Rover and told them to return to the village.
They were all rounded up in the churchyard and the men aged between 15-60 were taken to Galateia and on 20 August some were freed.

Mihalis Asprou told Angeliki that the names of Mihalis Sialouna, Dimitris Charalambous, Dimitris Spyrou and Vasilis Hlia were heard in the prisons and these men were taken to an unknown location on 20 August. He has been missing ever since
